Occupy Till He Comes: The End-Time Church Must Work While It Is Day
The return of Jesus is not a reason for the church to become passive. It is a call to faithful work, urgent witness and stewardship of the time God has given.
A church that works until He comes
River Church Frankfurt continued its End Time Church teaching series on Sunday, October 4, with the focus “A Church That Occupies Till He Comes.” The central call was straightforward: the church is not meant to stand still while waiting for Jesus. Believers are called to work, obey and advance the assignment God has placed in their hands.
Jesus’ words in Luke 19:13 give the message its governing picture: “Occupy till I come.” In the parable, servants are entrusted with something and expected to put it to work while their master is away. Applied to the church, expectation of Christ’s return should produce faithfulness rather than inactivity.
Work while it is day
John 9:4 adds urgency: Jesus said He must work the works of the One who sent Him while it is day, because the night is coming when no man can work. The point is not fear or speculation about dates. It is recognition that present opportunities are not unlimited and should not be wasted.
That makes ordinary obedience important. Prayer, serving, preaching the Gospel, discipling people, helping families, giving, building the local church and carrying the message of Jesus into daily life are not side activities while believers wait for the future. They are part of what faithfulness looks like now.
Redeem the time
Ephesians 5:15–16 tells believers to walk carefully and redeem the time because the days are evil. Biblical urgency is therefore purposeful. It does not require panic; it requires wisdom about what deserves attention and what God has actually called His people to do.
The October 4 service recap reflected that outward focus. River Church Frankfurt reported that eight people made decisions for Jesus during the Sunday gathering. The church then turned toward a week of ministry around Breakthrough Conference, continuing the same emphasis on action, witness and expectation.
Power to be witnesses
Acts 1 records the disciples asking Jesus about the restoration of the kingdom. Jesus redirected them from trying to control times and seasons toward the assignment immediately in front of them: they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they would be His witnesses.
That pattern remains useful for an end-time church. The church does not need to know every detail of the future in order to know what to do today. It needs the power of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God and a willingness to witness faithfully wherever God has placed it.
