SERMON NOTES

I. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD AND HE IS PERSONAL
Acts 5:3–4 (KJV)
“But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power?
why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.”
1 John 5:7 (KJV)
“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”
Key Point:
* He is not junior to the Father or Son—He is God.

II. THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS A MIND
Romans 8:27 (KJV)
“And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,
because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
Key Point:
* The Spirit doesn’t move randomly—He moves with purpose and intelligence.

III. THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS A WILL
1 Corinthians 12:11 (KJV)
“But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit,
dividing to every man severally as he will.”
Key Point:
* The Spirit chooses who gets what gifts.

* His will is active. He is not passive or programmable.

IV. THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS EMOTIONS
Ephesians 4:30 (KJV)
“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”
Isaiah 63:10 (KJV)
“But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit:
therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.”
Key Point:
* You can’t grieve a power source—you can only grieve a Person.

V. THE HOLY SPIRIT
SPEAKS
John 16:13 (KJV)
“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:
for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak:
and he will shew you things to come.”
Acts 13:2 (KJV)
“As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said,
Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.”
Revelation 2:7 (KJV)
“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches…”
Key Point:
* The Spirit has a voice. He speaks clearly. He guides intentionally.

VI. THE HOLY SPIRIT
LOVES AND COMMUNES
Romans 15:30 (KJV)
“Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit,
that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me.”
2 Corinthians 13:14 (KJV)
“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.”
John 14:23 (KJV)
“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words:
and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”
Key Point:
* The Spirit longs for daily communion.

* He wants to dwell in you—not just touch you.

VII. THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN BE
GRIEVED, QUENCHED, AND BLASPHEMED
Ephesians 4:30 (KJV)
“And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”
1 Thessalonians 5:19 (KJV)
“Quench not the Spirit.”
Matthew 12:31–32 (KJV)
“Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men:
but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him:
but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world,
neither in the world to come.”
